Imagine walking down a busy city centre high street, rows of shops either side all fighting for your attention and business. Now whilst walking past these shops, it’s the window display, which consciously or not, influences whether you will take a look inside.

Your Ecommerce Website Shop Window
The homepage of your website design is your shop window. It is this page, or indeed any other landing page, which will form the deciding factor as to whether or not the visitor will start browsing your product base.
Give off the right impression
The design of your shop is crucial for attracting the right customers. If your ecommerce website is selling high end, designer clothes then your design should reflect this. Mismatching your branding with your product base will result in not appealing to the right demographic and ultimately losing or confusing your visitors.
Less is more
A shop window is not all about, cramming in all of your products so everyone can see everything that you sell. It’s about choosing a particular campaign or selection of products which will give of an impression for the rest of your product base. A common myth in website design is that people have three seconds to find what they are looking for. This is not the case, it’s more like, you have three seconds to convince the user that they will find what they are looking for, or maybe something else that will appeal to them.
I would focus on promoting the following factors…
- Accurately representing your product base in your website design
- Encourage people to browse with clear calls to action
- Promote Special Offers
- Use professional images

Republic have used branded their ecommerce website in a way which will appeal to younger generations looking for cool, retro clothing. The bold colours and shapes help to promote the product base and special offers within the website design.
