Web Designers: Stylish for Mozilla Firefox

Posted by on Monday, March 1st, 2010 at 10:10 pm.

Previously, we highlighted how the extended functionality of Mozilla Firefox, the widely-used open source browser, can help Web Designers in tweaking and editing their websites on-the-fly, thanks to Firefox’s Plugins platform.

‘Stylish’ is an impressive plugin for Mozilla Firefox that, in its most simplest format, allows you to ‘install’ themes that can change how a popular website looks, such as Google, Facebook or even Wikipedia.

If you’re interested in Web Design, you can quite easily give creating your own Stylish theme ago over at UserStyles.org – it’s official community website.

In the meantime, we’ve put together a list of Stylish themes that have caught our attention as Web Designers and are certainly worth a look and try for yourself (Install ‘Stylish’ for Mozilla Firefox).

Facebook: ‘Summer Skin’ Theme

‘Summer Skin’ is an inspirational take on altering the minimalistic look of Facebook, throwing in a spectrum of light-contrast, relaxing colours that have a hint of summer attached to them.

Google: ‘Dark/Grey’ Theme

Google is very well-known for its use of clean white design across all its products and the ‘Dark/Grey’ theme spins that mantra upside down with this sleek darker theme.

Google Reader: ‘Snow Leopard OSX’ Theme

For those who are both familiar with Google Reader (RSS Feed Aggregator) and the defined ‘look’ of the Apple operating system, Mac OSX, you can now add a touch of style to your feed reader using the ‘Snow Leopard’ theme.

Wikipedia: ‘Grey Lady’ Theme

Altering Wikipedia’s style to make it represent more of a traditional encyclopaedia, the ‘Grey Lady’ theme helps further increase the clean usability of the website and is a nice take on ‘user style’ customisation done right overall.

I have installed the plugin and am going to experiment with this. The four themes you have posted above are quite catchy and innovative, especially the Facebook Summer skin and Wikipedia Grey Lady themes.
