Tables are so last Century

Tables are so last Century, CSS is super duper clean

The old school way of designing websites was done in tables – tables within tables, within tables, and those tables within more tables. For those of you who don’t know what they are, well there really is no need.

Absolute positioning is the way forward – or at least CSS and div classes are. It may take that much longer to get it all looking perfect in your browser, and even that extra bit of time looking correct in all other browsers, (snore) but eventually it works and what I like about it is it is so clean and neat.

I remember the good ol’ days when templates were never heard of and external style sheets were a different language. Now I have moved on in those years, and suddenly designing a website is a doddle, thanks to external styling.

Being Super Clean

I like being clean and neat – My washing ups always done before I eat my tea, the same way I ‘apply source formatting’ and ‘clean up xhtml’ in Dreamweaver before I upload my page. Well it’s good to be like that. Clean websites, with all the dirt and mess gone = Search Engine friendly content, and, easier for another person when they come to accessing the website!

I hate it when someone hasn’t cleaned up an empty tag or extra Javascript that’s made it’s way onto the website. And the worst is BROKEN LINKS. If someone shot every designer that uploaded a site with a  broken link, I don’t think we would have many web designers left!

Get your Website Super Duper Clean

To help you keep your website clean, I have put together a few things that should be done as standard when creating a website:

  • Make sure all pages are W3C Compliant including your CSS. http://validator.w3.org/.  You can also use the W3C checker to determine any broken links. here are some import codes to insert into your webpage.
  • Clean up your XHTML and Apply Source Formatting, but also manually go into the code as there may be something contained in paragraph tags which will prevent it from Validating.
  • Keep your pages and elements of the site neatly in folders so it is easy to link to, and easy for someone else to go into when needed.

Surely relative positioning is better? Absolute positioning is much more likely to ‘break’ in browsers!
