As any web designer or developer will tell you, when it comes to browsers Microsofts Internet Explorer has always played by its own rules. Being the second most used browser in the world it has always been essential for sites to be thoroughly tested with IE 6 upwards to ensure maximum compatibility, however due to IE’s own set of standards this has often resulted in a lot of issues for developers (especially with Internet Explorer 6!).
But all is not lost, it seems these days may soon be over! Microsoft has recently released details of the upcoming Internet Explorer 9, and there are some huge changes coming with it!
Why IE 9 is a step forward…
Along with full support for nearly all CSS 3 standards and HTML 5, website developers are soon to have free range of using these new properties and all safe in the knowledge that IE will display them just as Firefox, Chrome, Safari and many others do – no more “IE hacks” will be needed! Microsoft has also announced that IE 9 will be coming complete with a faster Javascript engine and support for colour profiles.
It seems that IE 9 will be one of the most important releases of Internet Explorer for many years, finally allowing it to match the performance and capabilities of rival browsers such as Firefox and Chrome. Lets all hope the hype is lived up to!
