.CO Website Domain Names now Available

Posted by on Wednesday, July 21st, 2010 at 8:07 pm.

CO Internet LogoYesterday, ‘.CO’ domain names became available on general release for purchase through all major website design hosting and domain registar companies across the globe.

Despite primarily serving as the country-code domain extension for Columbia, it also hopes to one-day become an alternative to the increasingly overpopulated domain extensions such as ‘.COM’, ‘.NET’ and ‘.ORG.’

.CO Internet S.A.S, the extensions primary registar, have been aggressively marketing the new opportunities available with the domain, including a charity auction for the domain name ‘E.CO‘ which sold for an impressive $81,000 in June.

Should you buy a .CO Domain Name?

We’ve already had several customers ask us if investing in a ‘.CO’ domain name is a worthwhile investment.

If you’re a UK business that currently has an existing website on a ‘.CO.UK’ extension, then it’s likely not worth moving your entire website onto a ‘.CO’ extension as it may have a significantly detrimental effect on an SEO Campaign targeted towards the UK market.

Although, if you’re keen to protect your companies trademark name or looking for a more ‘catchy’ domain name, then it is certainly worth considering paying the one-off cost and then pointing the domain name towards your existing website.

‘.CO’ Domain Names are available to purchase from as little as £18.99 per annum from Fasthosts.
