In today’s ever changing world what skills do web designers need in order to survive? 

The world of for a designer has changed a lot over the years.  Even around 5 years ago a designer could survive without possessing any web design skills and been able to concentrate on adverts for various publications and other skills such as logo design.  In today’s world designers who do not have web skills are rare and becoming almost extinct.  So what skills does a web designer need in today’s web world: 

1) Design Skills

Design skills are as important today as they always were.  The format may have changed in that the design must look good on a screen, as opposed to a paper advert, but the design skill are still required.  These design skills are utilised via various software packages such as Photoshop.

 2) Optimisation Skills

Although optimisation (getting the site to do well in the search engines such as Google) is a separate skill set from web design a good designer should be able to build a website with optimisation in mind.

3) Content Writing Skills

Again although content writing is a separate skill set a good web designer should be able to write the skeleton of the site.

4) Communication Skills

This skill is crucial. Good web designers will be able to communicate and guide customers to a design that will work for them.  We at Creare believe passionately that a website is not just a pretty picture.  Good communication skills will allow the website designer to explain to the customer why they are implementing certain aspects to the website.
